This is part of a memoir series on my friendship with Renee who I met in college and focuses mainly on our escapades during our late teens and early twenties.
When Renee and I were in the Bahamas, we wanted to get matching Hawaiian shirts. We had seen some at a store close to our hotel. When we were waiting to be picked up from the hotel to go to the airport, Renee decided to go run and get some. It made me kind of nervous because I thought she’d make us miss our ride. But of course she ran off. The van pulled up, I was trying to stall the driver a bit and Renee comes running up “I got them!” We got our luggage loaded, got in the van and sat down. I said, “Can I see them?” She handed me the bag and inside were the ugliest orange and brown shirts I’d ever seen. They looked a little like the picture above. Today, that looks kind of cute to me. But when I was 20 it was just the ugliest thing. I was wanting and expecting something pretty that looked like this:

You may think those are ugly too. Well I just hated the orange shirts. And they were expensive too! But I’m sure that Renee and I wore them many times, together, matching!
